Should be very easy to get a new cable box from Comcast. Just give them a call and ask for an exchange.

You have the low-definition box designed for use with old analog boob-tube TVs. You need the High Definition box designed for use with HDTVs-- Those will have either a DVI or HDMI output which you can connect directly to your monitor.

If your monitor has a DVI input you can get a cable box from Comcast which has an HMDI out - get a HDMI to DVI converter cable and plug it right in.

The converter doesn't cost much, Comcast will probably take the old cable box unless you purchased it.

Marjorie

Are the TVs the same brand? If not, don't even bother looking at contrast ratio. The contast ratio is specific to each brand so a higher ratio on one Samsung TV to another is important, but a higher ratio on a Samsung to a SONY is not a decision making factor.

I'd go with the full HD version just because if you're shelling out money for a new TV, why not get the full HD now. Less than 200 isn't all that much money anyhow. I have an Xbox Elite (sort of. Its the Halo version so its based on the Elite) and use an HDMI on my 52" full HD LCD. Most games on Xbox are in 720p and not full HD but is subject to change which may allow the 1080i in future games. Won't get 1080p out of the Xbox otherwise it would play HD DVDs on its own w/o the now obsolete additional drive.

Honestly, the best deciding factor is to see both TVs in action at the store. If not possible, buy one, take it home and try it out. If you're not happy, the store should have a return policy and give you no trouble, especially if you're swapping it out for the other TV. Hope that helps some.

Oh and be prepared to buy a separate HDMI cable. Most TVs don't come with one.

SCART is a French-originated standard and associated 21-pin connector for connecting audio-visual (AV) equipment together. I live in USA so not familiar with it. I just wikipediaed it. If you're only using it for the Xbox, I'd disregard whatever this SCART thing is since you'll be using HDMI which transmits your audio and video.

Sam

I would say that it is worth the 180$ if you are going to be using your PS3 on it because the higher definition will make a difference. 1080 and 720 is basically the refresh rates, if you have a 1080, you have a clearer foreground AND background, whereas 720 is focused on the foreground moreso.

No need for 1080 on a 32". It is just a waste of money. Now if you also get other features that you want by going to the 1080, okay. But do not buy a 1080 32" for the resolution.

Amy

The difference between 720 and 1080 on a 32" screen is negligible. In addition, most games and HD programming are in 720 resolution. So the 720 will do just fine.

Phyllis

For under 40 inch there is no big difference for 720 and 1080p.
I would suggest Samsung LE32A436T - 32'' Widescreen HD Ready LCD TV for 720p and Samsung LE32A558P3 - 32'' Widescreen 1080P Full HD LCD TV for 1080p

Julio

You do not need 1080p on a 32" screen size unless you sit like 4ft away from it!!! Even then you probably won't see a difference in pic quality between 1080/720p! See the first link below.

1080p only starts becoming necessary on large screen sizes and/or close seating distances! See the second link below.

Just because something ouputs in 1080p, doesn't mean your eyes will see it! It depends on your seating distance and screen size! At 32", go with 720p and save yourself some money!!!

Mark

Well if you do go 1080 make sure it is 1080p not 1080i. Resolution on 1080p(progressive) vs. 1080i(interlaced) you will notice a difference. However a 720p is pretty standard today its the new 420p for flat screens. And 1080p is what 1080i used to be. So it depends on what you want. If you're satisfied with 720p then go for it. But for us gamers(Xbox 360 baby!) and especially your PS3 Blu-Ray player you're gonna want to watch those movies and eventually those games in 1080p. Weigh the pluses and minuses, choice is yours, hope this helps.
