We had a lightning strike very close to the house and the tv immediately stopped working. Will not turn on. I called the manufaturer but they gave me no info. Can this tv be fixed. It’s a new LCD tv and less than two years old but some folks have said it may be cheaper to buy a new one ????

Your TV may be able to be repaired cheaper than a new TV. It just depends an the damage done and the amount of electrical energy that your TV actually received. The manufacturer’s warranty will not cover lightening damage. Extended warranties also do not cover damage from lightening. Your best bet is your homeowners insurance policy. Call you agent and see if they cover damage to your home’s contents (like your TV) from a lightening strike.
P.S. I had a similar experience a few years back. It was cheaper to repair my TV than replace it, but your situation may be different. There is no way to know from the information you have provided without further evaluation of your TV.
Additional Details: Fuses are no protection from lightening strikes; there can be just too much energy to provide absolute protection and lightening can take many paths into your TV including those which are not fused. Have your TV evaluated by a professional TV tech with experience. Any answer here will just be a guess.

Your TV has 2 fuses – one on plug and one on power supply inside TV – check these or have them checked (shouldn’t be costly, fuses cost pennies!)
This is the most likely cause of your fault

The repair is $500. They will replace the board (CPU) at the very least. You could take a chance and pay $125 for a service call. Tell the guy to come with a truckload of parts for your brand and year of tv. That is the usual problem. They have to order a part and take your tv to the shop and then they have to hope that the part arrives and , when it arrives, that it is the correct part.
Read more at and. It looks like the landfills will be full of 2 year old tv’s because the modern tv’s die so fast and are so expensive to repair..
